Review | Come Closer by Sara Gran
I just finished this possession, horror novella and I wanna talk about it!
I have been actively trying to bust out of the reading slump I’ve been in for months and this book was a step in the right direction.
Come Closer by Sara Gran is a possession, horror novella that reads quickly but steadily builds in dread and disgust with each page turned. It took me a little time to settle in but once I did, I couldn't get enough.
The writing style appealed to me; it was blunt which aided in keeping the pace but descriptive which kept me hooked and turning the pages.
A few elements that stood out for me were the use of and inclusion of outside reading materials. I loved when she first started reading and taking the quizzes and seeing her scores change as the book went on. I really enjoyed the religious lore that was sprinkled in. The lore, the slow unraveling, the occasional person or child who could see what she was struggling with but unable to offer any help, the way her life began to fall apart and the description of the demon taking over.
It was just a really quick, dark and fun read. I reserve the right to change my mind (seeing as I literally finished it 8 minutes ago as I’m typing this) but right now, I give it 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
